🌱 Safe Repotting Steps

1. Water your plant 24 hours prior to repotting so the root ball is hydrated and pliable.

2. Gently squeeze the sides of the nursery pot and invert the plant while supporting the main stem base.

3. Inspect the root ball: tease and untangle circling roots gently with your fingers, but do NOT aggressively tear healthy root hairs.

4. Add 2 inches of fresh chunky aroid mix to the bottom of your new 10" container.

The Danger of "Overpotting" & Container Volume Math

One of the most common beginner mistakes is assuming that placing a small plant into a giant pot will allow it to grow faster. In reality, **soil without roots cannot drink water**.

When you upsize by 4 or 6 inches, the volume of soil increases by over 300%. That massive ring of wet, rootless soil stays soggy for weeks, suffocating existing root hairs and inviting fatal Pythium fungal rot.
